From 2017, in a few short, but challenging drought affected years we built the foundation of our stud herd with a range of fertile, feminine and robust cows and heifers who are true in type to the Droughtmaster breed. We found ourselves at dispersals, the 2018 Scenic Rim DM sale, the annual High Country sale of 2018 and 2019, The National Female sale of 2019 and dealt privately. We put together a base herd of cows and heifers who stand on good bone, textbook udders with plenty of milk, naturally good temprament and broad range of genetics.
We were aggressively in the market for quality heifers and cows in this period and the tough conditions sorted the class from the rest in a hurry. We made swift and measured decisions to quickly rectify any mistakes. Performance is paramount and we couldn’t afford to make excuses and give second chances. The stars are quick to show themselves and tell us in the only way they know how and they will be the female lines that will be influential in building the Grey Gum brand in the years to come. The breeding program is gaining some momentum now and clients can rest assured that they are buying from lines that perform.
High Country Genesis and High Country Hadley have their first daughters in the main herd now, they are the breeders who will take Grey Gum to the next level in the years to come.
Genesis and Hadley do their work from Mid November and are eagerly awaiting their signal to clock on.
He came to us in August of 2018 at 2 years old. A PP Bull, pesti and pompes free, he is well muscled, plenty of loose skin up front, the epitome of good temperament, a beautiful dark red coat and impressive growth EBV's. He was measured considerably and accelerated from top 15% at 200 day growth to the Top 5% through 400 and 600 days. An impressive sire and fitting name for the inaugural Grey Gum herd. His name.... HIGH COUNTRY GENESIS (GLEN FOSSLYN IDOL).
The newest sire in the Grey Gum operation. Also PP, Pesti and Pompes free. A similar type with unrelated genetics in his background. Plenty of dewlap with the great temperament, plenty of length and extension. He carries a strong sires head with ideally hooded eye. Also extensively measured and knocking on the door of top 5% in growth EBV's. We're expecting a lot of impressive calves from him, HIGH COUNTRY HADLEY (GLENLANDS QUARRY).
